In July 2015, the Greater Des Moines Startup Community kicked off a process to determine what our community should look like in the future and what it will take to get there.
We held two facilitated discussions to identify the areas of the community that need change. The first invited in eight founders of potentially-scalable technology companies with experience in the community. The second was a public session with more than sixty attendees.
From those two meetings, and several follow-on discussions, our facilitator identified four members of the community willing to lead the process further.
Each of these community leaders have chosen a section of the vision to focus on:
Deanna Bennett, co-founder of RentMonitor. Focus Area: The Future (funding, culture and innovation)
John Jackovin, Global Insurance Accelerator consultant and formerly the founder of Bawte, Focus Area: Raising Capital + Funding
Ben Lefever, founder of Certintell. Focus Area: Partnerships + Processes
Scott Kubie, independent designer and digital strategist. Focus Area: Inclusiveness + Engagement
This is a public, grassroots effort that is owned by anyone and everyone who wants to be involved. If you see yourself as part of the Greater Des Moines Startup Community than you are a part of that community and invited to get involved in the process by sending in your name in the attached form.
Special thanks to Joe Benesh, a Senior Architect at Shive-Hattery and the past-President of the Des Moines Downtown Chamber, for continuing to serve as our facilitator throughout this process. Joe has his own consulting firm, The Ingenuity Company, where he’s led strategic planning and design thinking processes for several organizations.
